- La Camera dei Lord (detta anche the Lords) è la camera alta del Parlamento britannico. I suoi membri non vengono eletti ma occupano il seggio per diritto ereditario o per nomina d'ufficio. Essi comprendono i Lords Temporal (Pari e Law Lords, cioè giudici) e i Lords Spiritual (vescovi e arcivescovi della Chiesa d'Inghilterra). Le funzioni di questa camera si sono nel corso del tempo progressivamente ridotte e oggi sono limitate alla discussione e alla proposta di emendamenti alle leggi già approvate dalla Camera dei Comuni (House of Commons). La Camera dei Lord è anche il tribunale supremo d'appello. A questa funzione sono preposti in particolare gli undici Law Lords, presieduti dal Lord Chancellor (Lord Cancelliere).

- Nel Regno Unito ci sono due classi di pari: hereditary peers, il cui titolo nobiliare è ereditario, e life peers, il cui titolo viene conferito loro nel corso della vita e non può essere trasmesso. In passato entrambe le classi avevano diritto di far parte della Camera dei Lord, ma una riforma del 1999 ha limitato il numero dei seggi ereditari a 75. Si è anche proposto che un certo numero di lords vengano eletti direttamente dai cittadini.
