lo2 [lo] ΠΡΟΣΩΠ ΑΝΤΩΝ αρσ sg Quando equivale a ciò, lo si rende spesso con it (non lo dire = don't say it), ma va notata la particolare traduzione dopo certi verbi: lo penso = I think so; non lo penso = I don't think so / I think not (d'uso più formale); lo spero = I hope so; non lo spero = I hope not; lo credo = I believe so; non lo credo = I believe not; te l'ho detto = I told you so; non te l'ho detto = I didn't tell you so. Analogamente si comportano verbi quali to suppose, to be afraid, to prefer e to expect. - Si notino in particolare le diverse traduzioni dell'espressione lo so = I know (se non si deve specificare l'oggetto), I know that (se ci si riferisce a qualcosa menzionato in precedenza), I know it (solo in risposta a domande in cui c'è un riferimento specifico, come “who knows his name?”), o infine una frase del tipo I know he is (come replica breve a un'affermazione del tipo “he's the best student in the class”). - Per altri usi di lo come pronome personale si veda la nota della voce
