- Sono così chiamati la bandiera e l'inno nazionale degli Stati Uniti. Quest'ultimo fu composto nel 1814 dall'avvocato Francis Scott Key, sulla musica di un'antica canzone britannica. Divenne ufficialmente inno nazionale nel 1931. Esprime la volontà d'indipendenza e di libertà degli Stati Uniti, come recitano i versi finali: And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave / O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
