- (or Ognissanti) Public holiday and religious festival celebrating all the saints. Typically, cakes made with nuts and raisins, which vary from region to region, are eaten during this festival. People go to the cemetery to take flowers for their dead loved ones, although the Festival of the Dead (I Morti) is the following day, 2nd November, which is not a holiday.

- The Italian police was organized on military lines from 1919 and was called the Corpo delle guardie di Pubblica Sicurezza (PS) (Guards of public safety), with administrative headquarters in the capital cities of each province (questure) and offices in districts and smaller centres (commissariati). It was demilitarized and made more democratic internally in the 1981 reforms and there are now many women working as agents and officials. Its present title is the Polizia di Stato (State police) and it continues to work alongside the Carabinieri when performing its duties regarding public safety, although the Carabinieri have offices in more places.
