Die Teilnehmer reiten im Galopp auf einem ungesattelten Pferd über eine Sandbahn und versuchen dabei, eine Lanze durch einen Ring zu stechen.
Das ebenfalls traditionsreiche „Sjezenrijden“ („Chaisen-Reiten“) ähnelt dem Ringreiten, aber hier wird die Lanze von einer „Sjees“ (einer zweirädrigen Kutsche) aus geführt.
