Schelling ist mit Fichte und Hegel eine zentrale Gestalt der nachkantischen Philosophie.
Er begründete den deutschen Idealismus als Natur-, Kunst- und Freiheitsphilosophie, um in seinem späteren Denken die Faktizität der natürlichen und zumal der geschichtlichen Welt geschichts- und religionsphilosophisch zur Sprache zu bringen.
Die Kommission verantwortet die Historisch-kritische Ausgabe der Schriften Schellings, d. h. der Werke, der Nachlasstexte, des Briefwechsels und der Nachschriften seiner Vorlesungen.

He established German idealism as a philosophy of nature, art and freedom; in his later thinking, however, he brought up the facticity of the natural and particularly of the historical world from the perspective of historical and religious philosophy.
The Commission is responsible for the historical critical edition of Schelling’s writings, i.e. his works, the texts from his estate, his correspondence and the transcripts of his university lectures.
