Von diesem Kennzeichen des frühen Kinos, des „cinema of attractions“ (Tom Gunning), wurde bereits eine direkte Verbindung zum Avantgardefilm gezogen, treffen die beiden einander doch sowohl im Exhibitionismus ihrer Bilder, als auch in der Konstruktion eines aktiven, direkt adressierten Publikums.
Bei dieser Verbindung, historisch wie formal, setzt Norbert Pfaffenbichler in MOSAIK MÉCANIQUE – benannt nach Légers einzigem Experimentalfilm Ballet mécanique (F 1924) und Peter Kubelkas erstem Film Mosaik im Vertrauen (A 1955) – an:
