wwwb.math.rwth-aachen.de1994 zeigte Dr. Andrew Wiles, Professor an der Cambridge Universität in England nach sieben Jahren Vorarbeit und einigen Problemen mit Hilfe mehrerer aktueller Beweise in der theoretischen Geometrie die Annahme, daß elliptische Kurven gleichzeitig modulare Formen sind.
Diese Annahme impliziert Fermats Ungleichung, und durch eine vorher gefundene Umkehrbarkeit der Implikation wurde der Beweis der Annahme, daß elliptische Kurven modular sind auch ein Beweis dafür, daß an + bn < > cn für n > 2 und n, a, b, c ganzzahlig gilt.
