Vermutlich vom irisch-gälischen Wort seibin ('kleiner Becher' oder auch 'schlechtes Bier') abstammend, bezeichnete Shebeen eine kleine Bar, in der Alkohol ohne Lizenz verkauft und getrunken wurde.
