Als entscheidender Wendepunkt gilt das Jahr 1901, in dem eine Schifffahrtslinie von Hamburg via Helgoland nach Hörnum eingerichtet und für die Bäderschiffe vor Hörnum eigens eine 153 Meter lange Anlegebrücke gebaut wurde.
Mit der Inselbahn ging es dann weiter in die anderen Sylter Ortschaften – denn in Hörnum stand zu dieser Zeit noch kein Haus.
Erst 1903 wurde der Bahnhof gebaut, 1907 der Leuchtturm – und noch bis 1924 sollte es dauern, bis das erste Privathaus stand.

The island railway collected passengers here and carried them north to the other villages on Sylt – for at that time there were no houses in Hörnum.
The station was erected in 1903, the lighthouse in 1907 – it was not until 1924 that the first private home was built.
