Am Eisenberg bei Korbach befindet sich Deutschlands reichste Goldlagerstätte.
Der Bergbau wurde während des Mittelalters 500 Jahre lang betrieben, ist aber seit Mitte des 17. Jh geschlossen.

Das anstehende Gebirge im Bereich der Goldlagerstätte besteht aus einer ca. 1 m mächtigen Schicht Schuttmaterial, unter der wiederum eine 2-3 m mächtige Schicht aus verwittertem Fels ansteht.
Die darunter liegende Schicht besteht aus Hornfels bzw. kompaktem Phyllit.
