Das Team internationaler Wissenschaftler, das von Forschern der spanischen Fernuniversität UNED, des Zentrums für Astrobiologie ( Centro de Astrobiología, CAB ), des Instituts für Astrophysik der Kanaren ( Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, IAC ), des Deutsch Spanischen Astronomischen Zentrums ( Observatorio de Calar Alto, CAHA ), der Universität von La Laguna und des Max-Planck-Instituts für extraterrestrische Physik ( MPE ) sowie zahlreicher europäischer und lateinamerikanischer Einrichtungen gebildet wird, bediente sich für die Ortung von WTS-1b der Infrarot-Photometrie.
Die Beobachtungen zeigen, dass der Exoplanet ein Gasplanet, der als „heißer Jupiter“ bekannten Kategorie ist, da er ähnliche Eigenschaften wie der Gasriese unseres Sonnensystems aufweist.

The observations reveal that this exoplanet is a gaseous object belonging to the category known as “hot Jupiters”, because it shares some features with the giant planet of our Solar System, but it orbits its central star (WTS-1) at a distance much smaller than that from Jupiter to the Sun.
