Es war zunächst im Prinz-Max-Palais in der Karlstraße untergebracht.
1969 zog es in sein heutiges Amtsgebäude, das sich in unmittelbarer Nähe des Karlsruher Schlosses ( zwischen Schlossplatz und Botanischem Garten ) befindet.
Das Haus wurde in den Jahren 1965 bis 1969 nach Entwürfen des Berliner Architekten Paul Baumgarten errichtet.
