Seit den ersten freien Wahlen von 1994 ist der Anteil von Frauen an der Regierung gestiegen, was an der bis 2004 gültigen 30-prozentigen Frauenquote des ANC lag, die für die Wahlen von 2009 auf 50 Prozent hochgesetzt wurde.
Aktuell werden 45 Prozent der Regierungsämter von Frauen gehalten.
