The chicks need small animals such as earth worms, bugs and snails during the first days of their lives.
The food is not given to the chicks as it is given to song birds by stuffing it into the beaks but the parent storks retch the food out of their gullet into the bottom of the nest from where the young ones pick it up themselves.
The upbringing of the young can be observed on the Internet on our website www.storchennest.de and on the monitor of the White Stork Information Centre in Vetschau, Spree Forest daily except Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Das Futter wird den Jungstörchen nicht etwa wie bei den Singvögeln in den Schnabel gestopft, sondern die Altvögel würgen das Futter aus dem Schlund auf den Nestboden. Von dort nehmen es die Jungen selbständig auf.
Die Jungenaufzucht kann im Internet unter www.storchennest.de und live am Bildschirm im Weißstorch-Informationszentrum in Vetschau/Spreewald täglich außer Montag von 10 bis 17 Uhr beobachtet werden.
