1989 entstanden auf Anregung der Niederlande im Rahmen von EUREKA / EUROENVIRON die Initiativen PREPARE ( Preventative Environmental Protection Approaches in Europe ) und ECODESIGN, die zum Ziel haben, die Idee und Umsetzbarkeit von Cleaner Production Aktivitäten in europäischen Ländern zu forcieren.
