Nachdem moderne Triebwerke mit hohem Nebenstromverhältnis den Gesamtschallpegel nicht mehr in jedem Fall dominieren, werden Forschungsarbeiten auf dem Gebiet des Airframe Noise immer bedeutender.
Da die Umströmung des Fahrwerks aufgrund der sehr komplexen Geometrie und Strömungsverhältnisse mit heutigen Verfahren nicht behandelt werden kann, konzentriert sich SWING auf den Klappenseitenlärm, der beim Landeanflug als eine wichtige Schallquelle identifiziert wurde.

SWING concentrates on the flap side edge noise, which was identified as an important noise source during the approach for landing, because the flow around the landing gear cannot be tackled with todays methods due to the very complex geometry and flow conditions.
