www.uni-mainz.deAs free connective tissue cells they are able to migrate through connective tissues using their small pseudopods.
The ovoid plasma cells are not surrounded by a basement menbrane and have diameters of 10 to over 20 µm.

Besides the cells mentioned above further 22 - 139 reticulocytes (nuclei containing precursors of erythrocytes) are present per nl (0,9 - 2,3 % in differential white blood count) and considerably less plasma cells, further hardly any precursors of leucocytes in normal blood.

www.uni-mainz.deHumoral immune responses at mucosal surfaces are dominated by immunoglobulin A ( IgA ).
Day after day plasma cells in the adult gut produce about five grams of secretory IgA, an amount that reflects the organ ´ s huge epithelial surface and its vast load with antigen.
Secretory IgA binds to bacteria, viruses and toxins and thus protects the mucosal epithelium.
